Marine Science Institute
Founded in 1970, the Marine Science Institute cultivates an understanding of the natural environment through science education that puts students in direct physical contact with local marine life.
Students observe, compare, measure, and interact with fish, invertebrates, and other forms of life, while shore side or on the Institute's 90-foot research vessel in the San Francisco Bay. Every year, 38,000 students explore underwater ecosystems to gain an appreciation of the interconnectedness of human and marine life, and become stewards of our marine environments.
